Dengue Test

Dengue

Dengue fever is often known as breakbone fever that becomes life threatening in a small number of cases. A survey conducted has revealed that about 528 millions of people get affected every year with this mosquito borne disease, all over the world. It has become a major problem in not only India but for the world as well, as no vaccination has still come up to prevent the disease from occurring. It is important to go for dengue test/ dengue fever diagnosis from a reputed pathology lab if you experience its symptoms, before it aggravates further.

It is transmitted by several species of mosquito. Infection from one type gives lifelong immunity to this type of virus but may lead to severe complications, if a person gets again infected with some other type of dengue virus.

After about 4 to 14 days, it begins to show its symptoms such as sudden high fever that may reach up to 104 F, severe headache, pain at the back of eyes, muscle and joint pain, rashes on skin etc. A recent report has suggested that about 1,872 people got affected with dengue fever in New Delhi, in September 2015. Primarily, it is utterly important to keep a check on mosquito breeding by getting rid of stagnant water.

However, early diagnosis of the disease can help in recovering from the disease faster and therefore, it is important to go for diagnosis as soon as you encounter these symptoms.

What Causes Dengue?

Dengue is a mosquito borne tropical disease that is transmitted to the human beings by several species of mosquitoes of the genus Aedes and is most prevalent in the tropical and subtropical areas of the world.

The people gets trapped in the vicious cycle when a mosquito bites a person infected with dengue virus and then it bites another person. Generally, it is considered that dengue spreads in two general patterns, endemic and hyperendemic.

Endemic refers to the condition when a particular area is affected by one type of dengue virus. The transmission of dengue can be explosive if the population of that area is exploding.

Hyperendemic situation arises when an area is affected by multiple strain of viruses. This is the scenario in 90% of the dengue affected areas.

A person develops a lifelong immunity to the particular virus she/he got infected by but the probability of developing dengue hemorrhagic fever also increases if the same person gets infected second time with any of the other three type of viruses.

How To Treat Dengue

Dengue is considered a self limited illness as there are medicines given to treat the symptoms but not the causes of this disease. The use of analgesics, intake of maximum amount of fluids and proper bed rest are considered enough as the treatment of this disease.

In case of dengue shock syndrome or dengue hemorrhagic fever, the person is shifted to intensive care unit, to prevent worsening of health conditions.
